Back left es un dueto que creamos Ezra LeBank y yo en el 2018 entre la Ciudad de México y Los Ángeles, California. Todo comenzó por mi inquietud de probar las cosas al revés.
Volverme zurda, aprender Chino, caminar hacia atrás, desayunar en la regadera. Esta exploración diaria la empezamos a compartir Ezra y yo agregando experimentos cómo cocinar un espagueti con los ojos cerrados, bailar abajo del agua, transitar en espacio publico con las agujetas amarradas, aprender Aikido y experimentar con nuestros alumnos. Improvisar movimiento con los ojos cerrados era de nuestras actividades favoritas. Back Left expone nuestros experimentos en una obra de teatro físico que tuvo una temporada de 10 funciones en el Festival Fringe Calgary en Canadá 2018 y posteriormente en Adelaide, Australia.


    
 



 

Algunos decubrimientos curiosos del procesoa

1. When eating oatmeal in the shower I discovered fingers are like tongues.
2. Things look more beautiful walking backwards.
3. People get irritated quickly on the subway.
4. Reaching into the past with a feeling of acceptance feels good.
5. The middle of a strawberry is like a tooth.
6. To cook you have to close your eyes and kiss.
7. The left side is evil through much of history.
8. There’s no word in English for the top of the foot, in spanish it is  ̈empeine ̈.
9. The word for the back of the hand is opisthenar. Which means literally back side of the hand. And nobody says that.
10. It’s fun to be messy. And it’s easy to clean up.
11. Vision dominates the senses. Like a totalitarianism of sight.
12. One can see with the whole body.
13. With the eyes closed, standing in the middle of a room feels like being stuck on an island.
14. Falling in love is good for curiosity.
15. I eat slower with my eyes closed, and food tastes better.
16. The eyes look into the future. The skin experiences the present.
17. My mom can’t stand the unknown.
18. My mom can’t accept other ways of doing the same things.
19. My dad is curious and does not judge, but reflects on himself and is willing to explore.
20. My mom thinks I’m absolutely crazy.
21. My younger sister has no time for experiments.
22. My older sister thinks I’m awesome and she misses that playful and innocent part of herself.
23. My mom puts a blindfold on me while having breakfast with eyes closed because she thinks I'm cheating.
24. My mom called me an idiot when I couldn’t find the food on my plate with a fork when having breakfast with my eyes closed.
25. I could fall in love with anyone who truly plays with me.
26. Hands are high tech artefacts you comunícate with the world with eyes closed.
27. A blind man told me in the subway he is happier since he lost his sight. He said blind people don’t know fear.
28. One day I had a horrible headache and exploring my house with eyes closed made it disappear.
29. We should all meet dancing.
30. Walking backwards is an easy way of flipping ordinary reality with a simple action.
31. Looking in our pasts tells us if our present makes sense, or not.
32. The world is full of textures.
33. Different types of Sushi taste pretty much the same with eyes closed.
34. I wish I had a stout.
35. The sensorial human possibilities (world) are infinite.
36. When I’m with eyes closed the city is an ocean and your hand means the world.
37. We are all the same.
38. People are homesick from earth.
39. People actually walk backwards inside a church.
40. Climbing ( a tree, a wall, a person or any structure) is way easier with eyes closed.
41. Doing a common action together, even with someone far away, erases distance.
42. I don’t want to tell my brother about these experiments. I don’t think he’ll take me seriously.
43. Most of the time I focus on what I see, and move forward in straight lines.
44. Walking down mountains backwards feels better for my knees, and I meet more peopleon the way.
45. Using underutilized sides and surfaces seems to expand the durability of the brain and creativity.
46. We look forward and move in straight lines when the body is designed to make spirals. I wonder if that’s because of the placement of our eyes.
47. Being creative together feels like home.
48. Showering in the dark with eyes closed is a wonderful meditation, an escape inside myself.
49. When I was little me and my sister liked to eat under water because everything tastes different.
50. Technology seems to take us apart from real contact with the world we live in.
51. I like you being my ally on this.
52. I'm really really enjoying the time with eyes closed. Each second becomes an adventure.
53. Doing these experiments I have a very strong feeling of who doesn’t understand or who I am afraid will not understand.
54. Each time I’m in pain, I imagine myself skiing on snow.
55. Teaching with my eyes closed, I felt my students taking greater freedom in their curiosity.
56. A student told me, if you’re going to teach experimentation, you ought to be
experimental in how you do it.
57. Sometimes after a while exploring, to open the eyes is harder than to close them.
58. If we could turn off our skin, like we can close our eyes, we would realize how amazing it is.
59. There are so many experiences hiding behind habits and ordinary actions. Secret places we might find by turning things backwards and around and under.
60. The way we move through space is different for lefties or right handed.
